Planning Your Hurghada Dive Trip
Welcome to Hurghada! To help you prepare for your unforgettable diving adventure in the Red Sea, here’s some essential information for travellers visiting Egypt.
Visa & Entry Requirements
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Egypt. You can typically obtain a visa on arrival at Hurghada International Airport (HRG) for many countries, or apply for an e-Visa online before your trip. Please check the latest visa requirements for your nationality with the Egyptian Embassy or Consulate in your home country well in advance of your travel date, as regulations can change.

- Currency: The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP).
- Exchange: You can exchange major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP) at banks, exchange offices, and hotels.
- ATMs: ATMs are widely available in Hurghada.
- Credit Cards: Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted at most hotels, larger restaurants, and dive centres, but it’s always good to have some cash for smaller purchases, local transport, or tips.
Language
- Official Language: Arabic.
- Commonly Spoken: English and German are widely spoken in tourist areas, including hotels, dive centres, and shops. Many of our instructors are multilingual to ensure clear communication.
Time Zone
Hurghada operates on Eastern European Summer Time (EEST).

Weather & Best Time to Visit
Hurghada boasts a desert climate with year-round sunshine.
- Summer (June – September): Very hot, with average air temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F). Water temperatures are wonderfully warm, around 28-30°C (82-86°F). This is great for those who love hot weather and warm water.
- Winter (December – February): Mild and pleasant, with average air temperatures around 20-25°C (68-77°F). Water temperatures range from 22-25°C (72-77°F), making a 5mm wetsuit comfortable.
- Spring & Autumn (March – May, October – November): Generally considered the ideal time to visit, with warm air temperatures and comfortable water temperatures, perfect for diving.
Health & Safety
- Hydration: Drink plenty of bottled water to stay hydrated, especially during warmer months.
- Sun Protection: The sun is strong! Use high SPF sunscreen, wear hats, and seek shade during peak hours.
- Food & Water: Stick to bottled water. Be cautious with street food; generally, food from reputable restaurants and hotels is safe.
- Medical Facilities: Hurghada has hospitals and clinics. In case of a medical emergency, your hotel or our dive centre can assist. We highly recommend having comprehensive travel insurance that covers diving accidents.
Local Culture & Customs
Egypt is a predominantly Muslim country. While Hurghada is a tourist resort, it’s respectful to be mindful of local customs:
- Dress Code: Outside of resorts, modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees) is appreciated, especially when visiting local areas or religious sites.
- Tipping (Baksheesh): Tipping is customary for services. Small amounts are generally appreciated.
Connectivity
- Wi-Fi: Available in most hotels, dive centres, and many cafes.
- SIM Cards: Local SIM cards (e.g., Vodafone, Etisalat, Orange) are readily available at the airport or in town for affordable data and calls.
Transportation
- Taxis: Readily available. It’s advisable to agree on a price before starting your journey or use ride-hailing apps where available.
- Hotel Transfers: Many hotels offer shuttle services. Our dive centre also provides hotel transfers for daily diving trips.
Dive-Specific Information
- Dive Medical: While generally not required for recreational diving unless you have specific medical conditions, we recommend reviewing the PADI Medical Statement prior to your trip. If you answer “yes” to any questions, you’ll need a doctor’s sign-off.
- Certification Cards & Logbooks: Don’t forget to bring your dive certification card(s) (physical or digital) and your dive logbook. We need to verify your certification before you dive.
- Dive Insurance: We strongly recommend comprehensive dive insurance (e.g., DAN – Divers Alert Network) that covers medical emergencies, evacuation, and hyperbaric chamber treatments. This is often a mandatory requirement for professional-level courses.
- Equipment: We provide full equipment for daily diving (excluding computer, nitrox, and torch, which are available for rent). You’re welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer.
We hope this information helps you prepare for an incredible and hassle-free diving holiday in Hurghada! If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
